Meaning, Scope and Significance of Urban Local Government

Local government is an integral part of the three-tier system of government in our country—the other two tiers being the union (central) government and the state governments. Local government is at the bottom of a pyramid of governmental institutions with the national government at the top and the intermediate government, i.e. the state government occupying the middle range.
