So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

9.1 Luminaires – General
Over the years many different types of luminaire have been developed to satisfy specific needs of lighting:
- Fresnel spotlights (soft-edged projectors)
- Softlights, including fluorescent lights
- Dual source
- Hard-edged projectors, including follow-spotlights
- Cyclorama top lights
- Ground row
- PAR lights
- Intelligent lights (moving lights)
- Open-faced luminaires.
Luminaires are often referred to as a ‘hard’ or ‘soft’ depending on the type of shadow they produce, i.e. hard-edged or soft-edged. Hard sources are point sources, i.e. small area sources (Figure 9.1) and:
