16.1   Vision Control – the Essence of Good Picture Quality

Good vision control is fundamental to picture quality and to lighting continuity. Basic vision control means:

  • white balance
  • exposure
  • black level.

White Balance

Cameras usually have three white balance options:

  • Preset – Preset to tungsten (3000 K) or daylight (5500 K)

Because of the wide range of lighting conditions to be found on location, it is recommended to white balance each set-up prior to recording/transmission. An alternative to this would be to use the ‘preset’ tungsten or daylight, as appropriate, then make any ‘colour’ adjustments in post-production. ...
