Chapter 22. Vibration

If you read drone forums for long, you will inevitably run across a discussion of vibration. I have had several hard crashes I believe were caused by vibration, so I have a very personal interest in the subject.

Vibration matters to anyone who flies a multirotor aircraft. We all use inertial stabilization systems, gyros and accelerometers, and these are very sensitive to vibration. Aerial photography depends on having a stable platform from which to shoot. And in the end, bad vibrations can simply shake a drone apart.

Figure 22-1 shows the log from a test when my drone was suffering from some devastating vibrations. It shows forces in the range of three to five times the force of gravity (that is, 3–5G). A reasonable reading ...
