8.1. Setting Up the Conversion Tools
Two key conversion tools are involved in physical-to-virtual (P2V) operations. The first of these tools is VMware vCenter Converter. vCenter Converter is the tool that is responsible for actually performing the P2V conversion. The second tool is called Guided Consolidation, and its purpose is to gather information about physical computers in your environment and then make recommendations about which computers can or should be moved into the virtual environment via a P2V operation. As you can see, these tools are complementary in many respects.
