Chapter 5. Compositing and Editing in the Timeline

This chapter introduces a powerful tool for working with objects in your composition over time—the aptly named Timeline. First, I cover how to change the appearance of the Timeline, how to navigate in time, and how to add objects to the Timeline (as opposed to adding them to the Layers tab in the Project pane or to the Canvas). Then, I explore how to manage objects once they are in the Timeline, how to perform editing operations, and how to work with Motion’s very slick and convenient mini-Timeline. By building familiarity and comfort with the Timeline, you can work with greater speed and ease. Like driving a car, once you know how to shift, you can focus on the road.
