It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Chapter 12. Working with Shapes and Masks
Motion includes tools for creating simple and freeform shapes. Because shapes are another type of object, they can accept effects such as filters and behaviors. The same type of tools that create shapes can also be used to create masks. As opposed to a shape, which is a standalone entity, a mask is applied to an object to create transparency.
When drawing shapes or masks, you use pen tools to create Bezier splines or BSplines, which are lines connected by vertices called control points. These splines control the way the shape is created. You can animate the control points of shapes or masks to make them change form over time. And, because shapes and masks are vector objects, you can scale them to any size ...
