ARP Cache 

Poisoning-Based MiM 

and DoS Attacks

2.1   Introduction

ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) cache poisoning is a tech-

nique used to perform Denial-of-Service (DoS) or Man-in-

the-Middle (MiM) attacks. A DoS attack based on ARP cache

poisoning prevents a host from communicating with other

hosts in a LAN (Local Area Network). A MiM attack is used

to sniff network traffic between hosts in a LAN. This attack is

characterized by the rerouting (redirecting) of network traffic

between hosts to a malicious host. To understand ARP cache
