What is machine learning?

What do we mean by the term machine learning? The definition is quite difficult, to do so, we are asking large field of scientists to help. We can mention an artificial intelligence pioneer's quote:

"Field of study that gives computers the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed."

Machine learning is about training a model or an algorithm with data and then using the model to predict any new data. For example, a toddler is taught how to walk from his crawling phase.
