How it works...
Microsoft Windows hosts have been affected by plenty of vulnerabilities targeting SMB, but none as famous as MS08-067 or netapi. This remote code execution vulnerability via a specially crafted RPC request affects Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista Gold, Server 2008 and 7 Pre-Beta, and different SP levels for all products mentioned before. The Shadow Broker's leak in April 2017 also included an exploit targeting patched systems. As these products are obsolete,yet still found in a lot of networks, they won't be receiving a patch.
