Single Carrier Versus OFDM Comparison

We conclude this chapter with a comparison of single carrier systems versus OFDM systems with the same data rate. The main difference between the systems are their robustness to fading and synchronization errors—both frequency and timing. Under the assumption of perfect synchronization, the performance of a single carrier system and an OFDM system is equivalent for AWGN and flat or frequency non-selective channels. Consider a received signal for a single carrier system
