MAC Overview
The MAC can be interpreted as an engine that works closely with the PHY to facilitate reliable and efficient data communication. Functionally, the MAC layer can be construed as a set of diverse services to accomplish information exchange, power-control, synchronization, and session management. These MAC services are implemented through the exchange of suitably defined MAC frames. Each MAC frame constitutes several bit fields which together encode the identity as well as purpose of the MAC frame. The different MAC frame types defined are data, control, and management frames.
