Transmit Diversity

In the previous section, receive diversity techniques were reviewed. However, receive diversity can be impractical in a number of applications. In such scenarios, the use of multiple antennas at the transmitter, which is referred to as transmit diversity, is significantly more attractive. Multiple element transmitter antenna arrays have an increasingly important role to play in emerging wireless LAN networks, particularly at the AP. Indeed, when used in conjunction with appropriately designed signal processing algorithms, such arrays can dramatically enhance performance. This last statement begs the question, “How are good transmit diversity schemes designed?”
