So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
- Dynamic memory pools
Oracle9i allows you to dynamically change the size of the different memory pools, such as the buffer cache, shared pool, large pool, and Oracle Managed Files. With Oracle9i, you can have your Oracle database manage the physical files that make up the database.
- Persistent parameter files
Oracle9i introduces the concept of a persistent file (named
SPFILE) for initialization parameters; this file allows you to preserve changes made to these parameters while the database is running and use them for future restarts of the server.
- Multiple block sizes
Prior to Oracle9i, you could have only one data block size for an entire database. Oracle9i allows multiple block sizes within a database.
