Options for Oracle Enterprise Manager
The standard Oracle Enterprise Manager package provides a wealth of management options for your Oracle database. But one of the virtues of EM is its extensibility, which allows additional services to be integrated into the EM framework.
Oracle offers a number of additional option packs that can work through the EM console. Many of these options are applicable only for managing Oracle Enterprise Edition instances; we’ve noted any restrictions in the following sections.
Diagnostics Pack Option
The Diagnostics Pack is used for monitoring, performing diagnostics, and planning in conjunction with Oracle Enterprise Edition. It consists of the following basic components:
- Performance monitor
The performance monitor provides graphical views used in monitoring system and database resources. The views are refreshed at timed intervals that the DBA can select. Among the predefined groups of charts that can be viewed are database contention, I/O load, memory usage, database instance and operating system metrics, and Real Application Clusters/Oracle Parallel Server performance. You can use diagnostics charts to further determine sessions or applications that are causing problems. In addition to these predefined charts, DBAs can create their own custom charts to view data gathered via SQL or the data-collection framework. You can also record data viewed in charts for playback later.
