These definitions are sufficiently wide to cover a large sector of the
European project finance market, and EIB is a major lender in this sector.
Loans are provided for up to 50% of the project costs, for periods of up to 12
years for industrial projects, and 20 years for infrastructure projects. Repay-
ment schedules are flexible. 31 billion of loans were provided in 2001 (not
just for project finance of course).
