Introduction

Visual effects are the most creative aspect of being a Technical Artist. They provide an opportunity to focus on creating “fine art” and design. Creatively, the artist does not need to be technically savvy to create beautiful content. Ironically, visual effects are also technical enough such that the artist may focus purely on their science and engineering. Visual effects are a perfect juxtaposition of the artistic skills and the technical elements. Each artist controls the ratio of the two. This chapter focuses on the rules for creating and designing visual effects regardless of their technical or creative requirements.
