今までの章では、インストルメンテーション、ダッシュボード、サービスディスカバリ、exporter、PromQL、アラート、AlertmanagerというPrometheusのすべての構成要素を1つひとつ取り上げて学んできた。この最終章では、これらの構成要素をひとつにまとめ上げてPrometheusシステムを構築し、将来に渡ってメンテナンスしていく方法について学ぶ。
20.1 ロールアウトのプランの立て方
新しいテクノロジを導入するときには、半端な知識で最初から完全なロールアウトを目指したりせずに、まず大して労力のかからない小さなものをロールアウトするに限る。既存システムへのPrometheusの導入では、Node exporter†1とPrometheusの組み合わせから始めるとよい。これらはどちらもすでに2章で実行したものである。
[†1] Windowsの場合は、Node exporterではなく、WMI exporterを使う。
Node exporterは、7章で説明したように、ほかのモニタリングシステムでも使えるマシンレベルのメトリクスを全面的にサポートする上に、それ以外のメトリクスも豊富にサポートしている。この段階でも、わずかな労力をかけるだけでさまざまなメトリクスを手に入れられる。目標はPrometheusに慣れることであり、ダッシュボードをいくつかセットアップし、アラートにも少し手を付けてみるとよい。
次の段階では、使っているサードパーティシステムは何か、そのシステムのためのexporterはどれかを調べ、それらのデプロイに手を付けよう。10章で示したように、たとえばネットワークデバイスがあればSNMP exporterが使える。Kafka、CassandraといったJava仮想マシンベースのアプリケーションがあればJMX ...
