8You Cannot Afford the Luxury of a Negative Thought
Studies indicate that we talk to ourselves at the rate of up to 300 words a minute. That little voice inside your head jabbers away 24/7. Self-talk, what you say to yourself internally, manifests itself in your outward attitude and actions.
Self-talk is powerful. You become what you think. When you expect to win, you'll win far more often than the person who believes they are going to lose. When everything hits the fan, it is super easy to become mired in stinking thinking. Imagine the impact on your mindset when your internal conversation is constantly filled with negativity.
Pay attention to what you are saying to yourself. When your self-talk turns negative, take control and change it. Learn to replace negative self-talk with positive affirmations and statements.
Likewise, be intentional with your body language. It is a fact that by changing your posture – shoulders up, chin up – you'll change your attitude.
Now, here's the thing. I know that you are already aware that self-talk matters. We all know this. Philosophers have been writing about this universal truth since the beginning of the human experience.
There is a difference, however, in knowing and doing. In a crisis like this one, you must be consciously intentional about being aware of and changing your self-talk and body language from negative to positive. You cannot afford the luxury of a negative thought.
