The great Napoleon Hill said, “Desire is the starting point of all achievement, not a hope, not a wish, but a keen pulsating desire which transcends everything.”
Outselling this crisis begins with desire. It's the key to tapping into the motivation you need for moving past roadblocks, dealing with setbacks and disappointments, and getting back up and dusting yourself off when you get knocked down.
Desire is essential to self-discipline, because discipline is the act of sacrificing what you want now for what you desire the most. Goals define desire in tangible terms.
To ignite desire, you need a clear definition of what you want and where you are going. This requires you to answer three questions:
- What do you want?
- How do you plan to get what you want?
- How bad do you want it?
That's it. Begin with defining what you want, building a plan, and writing it down. Not empty promises. Not fleeting wishes and or vague hopes. Specific goals.
Set big goals and break them into small, steps-to-success goals. You'll need hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly goals to stay on track.
Tapping into desire is a powerful way to remain motivated in a crisis. A set of written goals with clear steps to success leads to action. Action creates forward momentum. As momentum shifts into overdrive, you'll hurtle past your competitors.
