Given a continuous feed of location data from a mobile service
provider or an independent location service provider, and with a
location information database from digital map vendors, a location-
based service can be built and delivered to the end user via an Internet
connection over a range of wireless technologies. In addition to Open
GIS, Microsoft MapPoint is another platform capable of providing
maps, navigation assistance, proximity search, and location-related
business intelligence in the form of programmable XML web services.
