From Shadows into Light
ASSIGNMENT
Find a spot on the street or sidewalk where there is a distinct, harsh line between shadow and light. Make sure you position yourself in a way that your own shadow doesn’t get in the shot.
TECHNIQUE
This exercise works best when your subject is coming from the shadows and stepping into the light, and even better when you keep the shadows really dark to create more mystery. The reverse effect of a subject stepping into the deep shadows will also convey a story and will be easier to capture. Once you find a great spot, on a sidewalk or under a bridge, pay attention to the line, whether it is straight or at an angle. This will make a difference when you press the shutter.
