It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

One of the most fun and challenging ways to capture motion is by using a panning technique. If this is your first experience with panning, begin by setting out with the goal of capturing one technically successful frame. If you’ve practiced it before, then aim higher with an interesting subject! Keep in mind that a technically perfect frame of a boring subject will always be a boring picture.
TECHNIQUE
To begin with, set your camera to shutter priority mode. Start at 1/30th of a second and adjust accordingly if you are not getting the desired effect.
