It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Routing IP Flows
As described in Section 8.2, equal cost paths may be selected by a router for dif-
ferent flows to help balance the load within the network. But suppose that some
observer of the network (an operator or an application program) determines
that there is a longer, more expensive, underused path that is suitable for the
traffic: Can the data be sent down that path without having to modify path costs
as described in the previous section? If this could be achieved, network conges-
tion could be avoided (the drivers could download new routes from their GPS
navigation ...
