Generalized MPLS (GMPLS)
The cores of most modern networks do not switch packets even if they are
carrying packet-based data. The networks are built from optical fibers, and the
bandwidth is divided up by lambda (frequency or wavelength) or timeslot
through
time division multiplexing
(TDM). Switches in these core networks
switch timeslots, wavelength, wavebands, or entire fibers from an input port to
