Imagine if every strategic product investment opportunity was fit for market, if customers beat a path to your door, ready to buy. I’ve spoken with heads of venture capital firms and worked with leaders of estimable companies, and they remain frustrated. Why? Because the promises of success aren’t delivered. Product failure rates exceeding 70 percent are common. Larger companies are usually able to forgive and absorb some of these misses. In smaller companies, the environment isn’t so forgiving, with investors willing to pull the plug if the forecast fizzles.
