I’ve heard that it’s a best practice not to hire people who remind us of ourselves. What’s your opinion?

A.

All of us have a tendency to like people who remind us of ourselves. Be aware that a well-briefed candidate can easily manufacture attractive similarities between the two of you. The value of the interview isn’t in discovering that you both love the Thousand Islands for family vacations. The value is in identifying the skills and attitudes required for success and, if abundantly found, to attract the person to your organization.
