A separate visual effects unit may spring into life almost any time during production and even in postproduction. Its life may be like that of a mayfly—here today, gone tomorrow—or it may last for several months. What we are listing here as separate units may, in fact, be composed of some of the same crew members. It’s just that they perform different functions at different times and are occasionally supported by specialists in one craft or another.
