I met Tom Gilb in Norway circa 2005. He is a tall and imposing figure with a sharp mind, an agile wit, and the gracious manners of a refined gentleman. He and his lovely wife entertained me for lunch in their cabin overlooking a beautiful fjord. He and I had many stimulating conversations.
Tom was around almost from the start. He has met and worked with many of the people I’ve written about in this book. I could think of no one better suited to close this book with an afterword.
I read the manuscript thoroughly, and like a good detail-oriented programmer, I had fun finding typos and other bugs in the manuscript to email back to Uncle Bob. Like a good programmer, he enjoyed it and fixed the “bugs.”
