The specification is the foundation for knowing what we must achieve for the user—see Chapter 2, The role of specification. The user may be active as a consumer of a product or service, or passive as a patient and under the oversight of a client.
How we successfully deliver the complying product or service using the appropriate tools and processes is a matter of best practice. Best practice is commonly accepted as being defined in national and international standards (of best practice).
