Using the Storyboard and Timeline to Assemble a Project

To create a sequence of video clips that Windows Movie Maker can render into a movie, drag those clips from the Collections pane and drop them onto the big rectangles of the storyboard. As Figure 21-10 shows, the storyboard displays a thumbnail of each clip, along with the clip’s name. You can add a transition between two clips by dragging it to the small rectangle between those clips, and you can add an effect to a clip by dragging it to the star in the lower left corner of the clip’s thumbnail. Windows Movie Maker changes the color of the star from gray to blue when an effect is in use. (For more about video transitions and effects, see "Using Transitions" and "Using Effects".)
