Tex Schramm’s Point

Former Dallas Cowboys general manager Tex Schramm said, “Sports is not just about winning. It’s about winning with style and class. That was the old Cowboys. It was the old Celtics. The old Yankees. They were something special. Now all I see that matters is results.”

I agree with Mr. Schramm. I was a great Cowboy fan when Tom Landry was there. And Roger Staubach. I am not a great Cowboy fan now because the emphasis shifted to just winning and it didn’t seem to matter how you won or how you behaved in winning. It’s the slogan of the Oakland Raiders: “Just win, baby.” They’re more concerned with the end than the means. To me, the means is very important.
