Chapter 9

Quality-of-Service

Abstract

This chapter describes quality-of-service (QoS) within the 5G system. QoS allows for network operators to apply differentiated treatment for packets—for example allowing different classes of users, services or applications to be prioritized differently. This allows 5GS to support e.g. industrial applications that have higher demands around latency, reliability and other service characteristics. This chapter outlines the framework for 5G QoS including flexibility, separation of concerns and establishment and modifications of sessions.
