What Are the Objectives of This Chapter?
This chapter has two objectives. The first objective is to introduce you to statistical control charts that help you to understand when and where special causes of variation are occurring in a process, and to understand when a process is exhibiting only common variation. It also explains how to reduce common causes of variation. The second objective is to explain measurement systems analysis; that is, how do you know if your data has too much variation (noise) in it to be of practical value in improving a process?
