Compressive Data Gathering
13.1 Introduction
This chapter considers the data gathering problem in a large-scale wireless sensor
network. Such a large-scale data gathering sensor network finds a variety of applica-
tions in habitat monitoring, traffic control, and surveillance. In general, large-scale
sensor data gathering is accomplished through multi-hop routing from individual
sensor nodes to the data sink. Successful deployment of such large-scale sensor net-
works faces two major challenges in effective global communication cost reduction
and in energy consumption load balancing.
