DCast: Distributed Video Multicast
16.1 Introduction
distributed video coding (DVC) [389–392] is an attractive scheme for video com-
pression that has emerged over the past decade. Different from conventional video
coding schemes, it utilizes cross-frame correlation only at decoder. This brings sev-
eral unique advantages. First, DVC can shift intensive computation from encoder to
decoder, which is appealing for low-complexity video encoding applications. Sec-
ond, DVC framework is robust to transmission errors, which is desirable for wireless
