In 2022, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) validated research around the competency of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). SHRM defined DEI as “the KSAOs needed to create a work environment in which all individuals are treated fairly and respectfully, have equal access to opportunities and resources, feel a sense of belonging, and use their unique backgrounds and characteristics to contribute fully to the organization's success.” While research continues to emerge in this important area, it is clear that effective human resource management involves championing these initiatives throughout the organization.
