A/B: (1) Originally monitoring audio signals after or before tape. Now used as a term for comparing audio signals reproduced by different systems. (2) A cross fade technique between two selected sources.

A & B cutting: A method of assembling original film material in two separate rolls, allowing optical effects to be made by double printing. See also checkerboard cutting.

A-B roll: (1) A linear video editing process where alternate shots are replayed from two VTR sources through a vision mixer and recorded onto a third VTR.
