safe action area: An area in the centre of the active picture where action is positioned to ensure that none of it will be cut off by the overscan on a domestic television receiver. It corresponds to 90 per cent of the transmitted active picture area of a video image. See also safe title area and Appendix B.

safe area: The area within the active picture which is considered to be always visible on a domestic television receiver. See also safe action area, safe title area and Appendix B.
