Appendix K Analogue television line-rate waveforms

The drawings show the waveforms of the line blanking periods for a 625-line 50-field television system and a 525-line 59.94-field system.

Notes:

1The 525-line NTSC waveform for studio use is defined in standard SMPTE 170M (see Appendix U).

2In North America, line blanking duration in 525-lines was originally specified at 20 IRE above blanking level, but is now measured at 4 IRE (50 per cent of set-up).

3In North America, front porch and sync to set-up durations in 525-lines are measured from 4 IRE above blanking level to leading edge of sync.

4No pedestal is used in Japan.

5The video amplitude for digital 525-line systems is 700mV, not 714mV (140 IRE) and there is no pedestal.
