Sara Eisenman began her career designing books at Random House for

Pantheon, Knopf, and the Modern Library. In 1984, she was appointed Art

Director for Alfred A. Knopf jackets. Upon leaving New York City in 1987,

she was appointed Art Director of trade and reference jackets and covers

at Houghton Mifflin Company. In 1993, she became Creative Director at

Beacon Press, where she art-directed and designed book interiors, jackets,

and everything book-related for eleven years.

Eisenman continues to teach and design a wide variety of materials and

has received design awards from the AIGA (American Institute of Graphic

Arts), the American Association of University Publishers, the Society of

Illustrators, Print, the Art Directors Club, and many others. She has taught

at Harvard University, Columbia University Publishing Course, the Radcliffe

Publishing Course, and Rhode Island School of Design. She has lectured

at Stanford, Harvard, and Columbia Universities and at meetings of the

American Association of University Presses. She lives in Milton,

Massachusetts.
