Events
Our third category of measurements is events, both system events and external events. These are distinct from our domain events. Events are discrete, infrequent occurrences, such as a recent deployment, the autoscaling of a cloud-native database, a fault in a stream processor, or recorded alerts that show a resource metric or work metric that is not behaving normally. Events provide crucial context to the behavior of the system. When we are investigating a problem via a dashboard, events that correlate with metric fluctuations often lead to the root cause.
