Case Study: Motability Operations

For our next case study, Julian Austin and Lloyd Jones will describe the practice of continuous deployment at the UK company Motability Operations. As head of software engineering and Agile transformation at Motability Operations, Julian has played a pivotal role in leading the adoption of continuous deployment throughout the organization, preparing a cultural baseline for its success. Lloyd has co-championed this effort and will share his experience working “on the ground” as an Agile and software engineering team lead, where he looks after all engineering practices required to perform continuous deployment effectively.

Motability Operations is the company behind the UK Motability car, powered wheelchair, and scooter, and we help over 690,000 people with disabilities and their families get on the road.

For over 40 years, our affordable, accessible Motability Scheme service has helped to keep millions of customers mobile. Our aim is to meet our customers’ different disability needs by providing a wide range of affordable vehicles. Today, over 710,000 people with disabilities and their families benefit from the worry-free mobility available through the Scheme. Our customers can lease cars, wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs), scooters, and powered wheelchairs. All our cars come with insurance, maintenance, breakdown assistance, and a mileage allowance of 60,000 miles.
