Chapter 5. From Estimate to Baseline: Obtain Commitment to Realistic, Actionable, Truthful Estimates

In this chapter, I'll wind up my discussion on test project estimation. First, I'll look at what is perhaps the hardest step in the process, obtaining management commitment to the estimate we've prepared. Convincing managers to take the time and spend the money for good testing takes credibility and persuasiveness. A believable estimate and a compelling business case are key parts of this equation. The steps shown in the last two chapters give you some idea of how to develop them. However, ultimately your political capital and skills will be put to the test when you sell the estimate to management.
