In 2008, the programming question market on the Internet was dominated by a company called Experts Exchange. Many were dissatisfied with the culture on the site and the requirement that people had to be registered to view answers. Programmers Jeff Atwood and Joel Spolsky launched the "question and answer" site, Stack Overflow. Since then, the site has, taken off, quickly growing to become one of the top 100 sites on the Internet. Users can ask and answer questions on the site about a wide variety of programming topics.
