In the last section, we discussed that wholesale SPs do not offer any services. In the case of retail SPs, now the DSL SP not only offers the DSL services by being in the NAP’s space but it also offers value-add services by being in the NSP’s space as well (via its unregulated arm in case of ILECs).
Quite a few CLECs and a majority of ILECs (via their unregulated arm) adopted this kind of operating model to offer some value-added services and some differentiated services to the end consumer. Figure 3-6 shows a typical retail SP’s architecture.
