Advantages of RBE

RBE was developed with the intention of addressing some of the issues faced by the RFC 1483 bridging architecture. RBE retains the major advantages of RFC 1483 bridging architecture, while eliminating most of its drawbacks. Some of the advantages RBE offers are the following:

  • Minimal configuration at the CPE— Like RFC 1483 bridging, minimal configuration is necessary on the CPE, and all of the CPE uses the same configuration, eliminating the need to keep track of one unique configuration per subscriber.

  • Easy to migrate from RFC 1483 bridging architectures to RBE— No change is required at the subscriber end, including CPE and PCs. The only change that needs to happen is on the access concentrator side.
