Case Study 3: Very Large Wholesale SP

Requirements: All the basic requirements match Case Study 2 by using PPPoX-L2TP architecture, with the following modifications:

• Number of Subscribers— The architecture must scale to support one million subscribers with the assumption of two sessions per VC, which amounts to two million sessions.

• Effective Throughput— The effective throughput per subscriber, at a minimum, needs to be 384 kbps, with the capability to increase to 1 Mbps.

• Existing Deployment— The DSL wholesaler is already equipped with a PPPoX-L2TP architecture by using centralized aggregation. The architecture uses PPPoE as encapsulations and has a minimum of two sessions per single VC; the subscriber base is strictly residential. no plan ...
