INTRODUCTION

My initial idea for this picture was something along the lines of an underwater being. I wanted her to be graceful, serene and regal, like a lady of the ocean, but didn’t want the standard mermaid look with a fish tail. I tried out some concept sketches of her head, but I ended up not quite liking any of them (Fig.01).
