By 2015, mobile hard disk drives with over a terabyte of memory, including several
hundred gigabytes of fl ash memory, should be available for use in portable products
such as life-logs and personal memory assistants. Likewise, mass storage devices for the
home will use hard disk drives with many terabytes of digital storage capacity. These
drives could be used in integrated home network storage systems or the home storage
utility outlined here. Optical discs could be available with terabyte storage capacity to
